Chamber of Commerce for
Marysville & District
Inaugural General Meeting held of the new Marysville & District Chamber of Commerce.
The new Marysville & District Chamber of Commerce held its Inaugural General Meeting on Monday the 2nd of April. Again the meeting was well attended with representatives of the many businesses in the Marysville, Narbethong and Buxton triangle.
The meeting commenced with discussion of the revised Constitution which had been amended following the Information Night held two weeks earlier. The new Constitution was then adopted unanimously by the meeting and the Chamber's new Public Officer, Bill O'Shea, will undertake the Incorporation process.
An election was then held for the new Office Bearer's of the Chamber and the following persons were all elected unopposed:
An exiting opportunity was then provided to 'brainstorm' a range of issues that people thought were important for the new Chamber to address. This resulted in many issues being raised and discussed. A prioritisation exercise was carried out, and a number of sub-committees formed to address the issues determined to be a priority, as follows:
The future of the Marysville Museum.
The future of the Buxton TV Tower.
Filling the empty shops in Marysville.
Speed Limits and Log Trucks in the district.
Bushfire funding and the DSE fire plan for the district.
Also discussed, and with some keen people taking up responsibility for the challenge, was the establishment of a Chamber e-mail group, the development of a website, a logo, a business register, a newsletter and the development of a car pooling system.
The meeting concluded with tea, coffee and socialising around much enjoyed fudge provided by Ashraf and Christine Doos from the Patisserie. The next meeting of the Chamber will be held on Wednesday the 9th of May from 8.00pm until 9.30pm at a venue to be announced in the Triangle News. It was agreed that in future, all meetings of the Chamber would be held on the second Wednesday of each month.
All new members, businesspeople, tradespersons, and other interested persons are cordially invited to attend the next meeting.
